Can Stitcher work on images acquired from a flat surface such as a flatbed scanner?

Yes. Stitcher can be set to work in Flat mode, which will eliminate all types of perspective and distortion correction in order to enable the software to create perfectly flat results.
This is useful only when constructing a large image out of smaller images that have been digitized with a scanner.
You can enter Flat mode by loading your images in, and before placing any of them in the work area, bring up the properties window in Edit > properties (or press alt + enter), and then selecting “Flat Stitch” from the “Focal Length” menu.
When a flat stitch is completed, you will be able to render in “Snapshot” projection only.

Note: it is not recommended to use the flat stitch option with images taken with a camera, as perspective always comes into play and may product unexpected results.
