It really depends on what type of panoramas and what level of quality you are aiming for.
Several popular camera and lens combinations are used with Stitcher every day.
We recommend you browse and search the Stitcher Discussion forums on our website to find out what other users have in terms of equipment and their different levels of success.
Here are some general pointers:
-Longer lenses (28 mm equivalent and above) require many more images to complete a panorama. For this reason they will also yield more pixel resolution in your final results.
-Wider lenses (under 28mm down to 4.5 mm fisheye) can complete a full panorama with much fewer images. Since fewer images are used, there will be less pixel resolution in the results.
- Panorama editing and clean-up are generally easier when there are fewer images making up the final panorama, so wider lenses make for easier workflow.
- We recommend digital (SLR or regular) cameras versus film cameras. Although film cameras can be used, they are prone to scanning errors that can make it impossible for Stitcher to work successfully.
Three examples of known successful camera / lens combinations:
- Nikon D70, D 80 with Nikkor 10.5 Fisheye lens. The images can be corrected with Nikon Capture 4.0+ or DXO. The last version of Stitcher Unlimited DS allows you to stitch these images without any prior corrections.
- Canon 400D, 350D or 300D with Canon 10-22 mm
- Nikon Coolpix 8800 series digital camera (integrated lens)
