It is possible to create partial panoramas with few images without a tripod and build a simple cylindrical panorama – Stitcher allows the user to force images to stitch together - but they will most certainly be imperfect and exhibit artifacts. To get the most out of Stitcher a special tripod is essentially a requirement.
