My panorama exhibits a wave distortion

This is a problem where you will see your horizon tilt up and down as you turn from side to side in your panorama in a QTVR for instance. To get a correct result from Stitcher exports (including snapshot projections) you should set your view in order to have the horizon in the centre of your Build Window. To help you do so, use the alignment tool. When all the verticals displayed in your panorama are indeed vertical, it means that your horizon is correctly placed and you can export the result without wavy distortion. Stitcher does not assume that the first image is perfectly centered. It allows you to create a full sphere as the way used to define the equator. Another way of doing this would be to select an image that lies in the equator of your panorama (shot at zero degrees elevation) and select Look At (shortcut '=') from the View menu. This will centre the camera to look directly at this image and will usually result in a perfect horizon.
